The Southern Universities Network are delighted to bring you this interactive CPD course suitable for all Education and Youth Practitioners who are working with students over the age of 16. This includes youth workers, local authorities, teachers, tutors, admissions staff outreach staff, Uni Connect staff and third party organisations who support young people applying to university.
This CPD course will set you up with an understanding of estrangement, the barriers that students face and what support is available for estranged students entering into university. You will be given information, techniques and actions that your college, educational or youth setting can do to support estranged students in making applications to university.
This CPD has been created in collaboration with the Uni Connect Estranged and Kinship Students Partnership and in consultation with the charity Stand Alone. Stand Alone as a charity has sadly now discontinued due to funding, however their research and resources have been an invaluable contribution to universities developing support of Estranged Students, as well as the development of this CPD course.
Disclaimer: This course contains some potentially upsetting content, as the reasons for estrangement can be complex and include issues such as forms of abuse, forced marriage, issues around sexuality and differing family norms. If at any point you need to stop and take a minute then please do so. We should emphasise we are not personally trained to give professional advice, but if you feel the need to reach out to discuss this course then please do so, sun@soton.ac.uk.
