What is the Virtual Festival of Industries? 

The Virtual Festival of Industries takes place throughout June, giving you the opportunity to take on challenges set by Creative & Digital and Engineering & Manufacturing industry employers. The challenges are designed to showcase your creativity and give you an insight into what typical projects might be like within each industry.

The challenges will go live on Wednesday 3rd June 2020 and the closing date for all submissions is midday on the 30 June 2020. There will be prizes for the winners!

How to get involved

Simply watch the videos below, download the challenge information sheet and get started! All challenges have been designed so you will only need things that are free online or you can find in your house. It’s amazing what you can do with a sheet of paper, a piece of sticky tape and some tin foil!

How to submit your entry

1 To be in with a chance of winning a £20 Amazon gift voucher please submit a computer file e.g. word document photo or video of your finished task via We Transfer to sun@soton.ac.uk or send us an email to sun@soton.ac.uk

2 When submitting your entry please enter the subject line of the email as ‘Virtual Festival of Industries Submission’ and include your name, school, year group and home postcode. When submitting your entry do not include people in your photo/ video entry.

3 The deadline for all challenges is Tuesday 30th June at 12 noon

FAQs

How can I get involved?

Watch the employer videos, choose a challenge you like the sounds of and follow the brief. You can do as many as you like!

Can I do more than one challenge?

Yes! You can do one challenge, or all four if you would like to. The choice is yours!

What resources will I need?

You will only need things that you can find around the house. Such as; pens, pencils, scissors, food packets, cardboard, paper etc. You should not need to purchase anything to take part.

If you don’t have access to the above, please contact sun@soton.ac.uk with the subject title ‘Virtual Festival of Industries Resource Request’ and we might be able to support you with buying the resources.

How do I submit my entry?

Simply email a computer file e.g. word document, photo or video of your finished task either via We Transfer to sun@soton.ac.uk or you can email your submission to sun@soton.ac.uk by 12 noon on Tuesday 30th June.

Please use the email subject ‘Virtual Festival of Industries Submission’ for all competition entries and include your name, school, year group and home postcode. When submitting your entry do not include people in your photo/video entry.

What are the prizes?

A £20 Amazon gift voucher will be given as a prize per winner! There is one prize per project and one winner per project.

How will you judge the winners?

Prizes will be awarded to the best project:

  • Quality of overall finished task, this does not mean the fanciest looking finished work! We will be looking for something that really fits the brief given by the employer
  • Planning of the task, we would like to see how you came up with your idea
  • Research, what research you did around the task to know that you are making the best overall product/campaign

There will only be one prize awarded per person, per category!
