SELF-DIRECTED WORKSHOPS AND RESOURCES

Take a look at our range of workshops and activities designed to enable teachers to run their own SUN workshops. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or queries about these resources.

THE WORKSHOP

Want to know more about university life?

The Southern Universities Network are proud to introduce you to our fabulous interactive game ‘Campus Explorer’.  The online game does exactly what it says on the tin, and has been designed to help young people make decisions about university and explore various aspects of university life.

The gameplay is great fun and engaging! Students simply choose a character, click play, and arrive on campus for their first day.  The gamification takes them on a simulated journey which has an accompanying narrative where they learn more about university life. It’s important that students read and follow the story to find points of interest and complete each quest – this will lead them to their own GRADUATION!

WHAT WILL EACH STUDENT NEED?

Each student will need to access the internet using a computer.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE GAME?

Visit uniexplorer.org – then click on Campus Explorer.

Students will be asked to enter their postcode and age to access the game.

This is important information for us to collect as it helps us measure the impact of this resource.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE?

With the game’s storyline and our accompanying worksheet, the game will approximately take between 35-50 minutes to complete.

IN-CLASS WORKSHEET

SUN have designed an interactive worksheet to accompany the online game.  The worksheet will quiz you on some of the information that you will learn throughout the Campus Explorer game.

THE WORKSHOP

It’s time to start budgeting!  This is perfect for students that want to learn more about budgeting and financial support for university.

The Southern Universities Network are proud to introduce you to our online ‘Money Explorer’ toolkit. Students progress by earning trophies and gaining budgeting knowledge by answering multiple choice questions and watching informative videos.  The aim is for students to collect all 10 trophies and learn how to budget effectively and steer clear of unnecessary debt.

Based on student input for each trophy, the game calculates your weekly money introducing students to ‘money in’ V ‘money out’. The website has a built-in ‘budget book’ which is a space for students to record information, own notes and tips that they find whilst collecting budget trophies.  This can either be printed or emailed to them.

WHAT WILL EACH STUDENT NEED?

Each student will need to access to the internet using a computer with audio capacity.

HOW DO I ACCESS THE GAME?

Students will be asked to enter their postcode and age to access the game.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO COMPLETE the trophies?

To collect all of the budgeting trophies can take approximately 50 minutes to complete.

However, students can work at their own pace and you will be pleased to know that students can save their progress.  If they click on the ‘SAVE’ function on the website students will be prompted to give their ‘POSTCODE’ and will be given their own unique code which they can use to load their progress when they revisit Money Explorer.
