SUN DELIVERY GROUP BLOG | March 2023

By Kev Sadler, SUN Project Officer

It’s the middle of National Careers Week #NCW2023, and here in the SUN it feels like there’s no better time to reflect on our in-school delivery. So far this academic year, the team has delivered over 200 hours of content to hundreds of students across Hampshire, Dorset, and the Isle of Wight! To shine a spotlight on February alone, SUN staff visited 16 schools and colleges and delivered several workshops on a range of topics. Unsurprisingly for the time of year, our workshop on post-16 options was a popular choice!

Small Changes Make a Big Difference

The SUN delivery team particularly enjoys delivering a range of Cosmos Engagement workshops, the Marginal Gains Programme being a firm favourite! The content is innovative and engaging, and it’s great to see students having fun whilst immersing themselves in practical tasks, such as the ‘peas in a cup’ activity and the ‘tower build’ challenge.

The programme really empowers students to take control of their own learning. Students are encouraged to reflect on the small cumulative changes that they can make to their education and hearing about these ideas is so rewarding!

Cosmos workshops in popular demand!

The concept of ‘resilience’ continues to be a hot topic in education so it’s been a pleasure to have recently delivered Cosmos’ ‘Confidence & Resilience’ workshop at a number of schools. This workshop helps students to better understand what ‘being resilient’ actually means, whilst giving practical tips for building confidence and learning from challenges or setbacks.

The team also recently visited Fareham Academy in aid of their Careers Day. We saw the whole of Year 10 and delivered Cosmos’ ‘The Art of Making a Good First Impression’ workshop. It was a fantastic day – the students were really engaged, and learned about why first impressions count, and how to achieve this during college, apprenticeship, or job interviews.

Last but not least and as we move into the exam season, we’re seeing an increase in bookings for workshops that link to study skills. We’ve been on the road delivering Cosmos’ ‘Memory & Distractibility’, and ‘Organisation & Effective Studying’ workshops. These sessions have been well received in the run-up to mock exams!
