Eastleigh College Sport Trip to Solent University

Solent University were able to facilitate a taster day for Level 3 students from Eastleigh College covering Sports Management, PE, and Sports Journalism in the department of Film and Media – this proved to be inspiring and aspirational for all the students attending, but specifically for one of our Uni Connect students, who was impressed by the state of art news room and studio facilities.  

When Hamza decided to study Sport at Eastleigh College he was originally interested in Sports Coaching/Football coaching. He wasn’t sure if university was right for him as neither of his parents attended. When we arrived at Solent University students were amazed to see high tech gym facilities, including two huge sports halls. Hamza took part in an exciting Sports Journalism session including participating in a news recording in the TV studio. Hamza volunteered for this and showed a talent for reading the autocue straight away! 

After the taster day Hamza felt more confident about applying for university, realising Sports Journalism was the path for him. With the support from his SUN Progression Mentor based at Eastleigh College, he was then able to apply and be offered a place to study BA Sports Journalism at Solent University. Hamza is a great example of many students who are unsure of their career path, and it takes an opportunity like this, to see what’s on offer to support with those next steps.
