SMALL PROJECT FUND: YOUNG CARERS BOURNE FUTURES
WITH THE SUN’S SMALL PROJECT FUND INITIATIVE, THE BOURNE ACADEMY WERE ABLE TO SUPPORT THEIR YEAR 9 AND 10 YOUNG CARERS.
We hoped to offer additional careers support and opportunities to our young carers and vulnerable students. We aimed to explore their values and skills and to give additional one to one careers support as well as experiencing a trip that they would enjoy.
Between March and July 2023, 49 young carers from Years 9 and 10 at The Bourne Academy took part in a new programme, titled Young Carers Bourne Futures.
The activities in the programme included a conference by MYTIME Young Carers at Avonbourne Academy, one-to-one appointments with a careers adviser, skills and values workshops, and a respite trip and parent celebration.

Education Social Worker
“It was lovely to see the young carers at Monkey World having a fun, carefree time without their caring responsibilities. It has also opened up some really valuable careers conversations with young people that wouldn’t have happened without this project.”
