Level 2 students can face many obstacles when it comes to progression. Last academic year, almost half of the students at Bournemouth and Poole College indicated that they didn’t know what their next steps were.

This academic year, a series of progression talks were created and delivered; these were tailored to our current courses.

• Health and Social Care

• Early Years and Childcare

• Applied Science

• Business

• Automotive

• Marine Engineering

• Engineering

• Media

Each talk showcased what careers are available in the specific area, with the aim of getting students excited and motivated about the future. Most Automotive students only thought of a career as a mechanic, but the talk
showed them the wide range of careers in cars such as Motorsport Technician, Bodywork Technician, Car Sales, and Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technician.

They were shown examples of Level 3 and 4 courses that are available to them, as well as different higher education routes, and what qualifications each career would need.

In total, these progression talks were delivered to approximately 145 Uni Connect, Outreach Hub, and Strategic Outreach students!

The students found the progression talks very helpful when choosing their next steps and it was a fantastic opportunity for students to start thinking about what’s next.
