SUN Progression Mentor at Itchen Sixth Form College
What is your role at the college & how can you support the students?
I work within the Student Support team here at Itchen College, and my role includes working to provide a range of activities which enable our students to make decisions about their future with as much confidence as possible. I’m largely responsible for our annual Careers Week in February, where we see a mixture of over 100 universities and employers who are keen to provide exciting insights on the topic of careers and choosing the right course at university.
What has been your career journey & what did you study?
Upon leaving secondary school I felt there was nothing I wanted to pursue, and I found myself going straight into work in a salon doing an Apprenticeship. I worked my way up to the top of that industry over 8 years, until realising a big part of my journey was unfinished from all those years ago. I was a huge advocate for apprenticeships, and learnt a lot from working for a private training provider. I’ve since worked in a college setting, having an interest in raising attainment and haven’t looked back since. I have also recently completed a Level 6 qualification in Careers Development.
What is a fun fact about you?
I love taking time out to swim and do yoga. I also enjoy spending time with my family outdoors (and eating!)
