Visit our website to find out more.

APPLICATIONS AND INTERVIEWS

Applying to HSDC couldn’t be easier! Applications can be submitted online. We have also created a video to show you how to apply on our website, that can be accessed below. We do not have an application deadline; however, we do recommend you apply as soon as possible so we can arrange your interview and you can secure your place on your chosen course to avoid disappointment.

Once we receive your application, we will contact you via email with an interview date and time, you should hear from us within seven days to arrange your interview. Your interview is an opportunity for you to find out more about the course you are interested in, and for us to find out more about you and ensure the course you have applied for is the best course for you. Once you have had your interview and confirmed the course you would like to study you will be offered a place to start at HSDC in September.

We will keep in touch with you to let you know about things that are going on at HSDC and to help you feel prepared for starting with us in September.

In the summer, you will receive your GCSE results – although this may look a little different to normal, we will be here to congratulate and support you. You will then be invited for your enrolment appointment – this is when we ask for a final decision on the course/subjects you would like to study with us in September. Every student will be given an appointment so you can make sure you are happy with the course you enrol on.

Once you have confirmed your course and enrolled you will start your HSDC experience!

ABOUT

At the start of the 2006/7 academic year, Portsmouth College was just beginning a long journey to where we are today. With just over 650 16-18 year old students, a poor profile in the city, facilities much in need of a face-lift and student success rates which left a lot to be desired, things needed to change. Thirteen years on, with the support of a brilliant team of staff and governors, as well as a wide range of great city partners, Portsmouth College has been transformed. This has since been reflected through the recent Solent Regional Area Based Review (ABR) process from which Portsmouth College has emerged as a viable, resilient and robust institution, proudly continuing as an independent, standalone, high quality and innovative sixth form college.

application and interview

Our online application process is live and you can apply at any time. In order to secure your place on your chosen subjects, we recommend that you submit your application by Friday 5th March. For applications received after 5th March we may need to place you on a waiting list for one or more of your subjects. This is because some subjects fill up quickly before 5th March. Please be assured that when we do operate waiting lists, we work hard to ensure that you are able to study your choices. Once your application is received, you will be assigned an interviewer. At the moment interviews are taking place on the phone but we hope to be able to offer a face to face interview in the college as soon as we are permitted to.

VIRTUAL TOUR and open evening materials

You can access all of our virtual Open Evening materials which includes a welcome from the Principal and a fly over of the college. In addition to this, there are dedicated subject videos for you to access in your own time to help you make decisions about subject choices. On this site you will also be able to access
recordings of our Facebook live events with staff, students and senior managers. Click below to create your own myTPC account to access all of these materials and resources.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION FOR YEAR 11 PARENTS AND CARERS

Parents and carers can also access all of the materials from our virtual open evenings. We are also planning on running our New Parent events either virtually or in person. These events provide parents and carers with everything that they need to know about life at college

If you know the career or job you want to do after school, you will need to continue to learn through a work-based route (an Apprenticeship). This will mean being employed and learning on the job, this usually also means spending a day a week in a college environment. To find out more about apprenticeships, explore the presentations below.
