What will the session cover?

The 3-part programme includes the workshops Research Your Options, Know Yourself Get Career Ready & What Makes You Employable. It takes students on a journey in which they explore their interests and personality in relation to their future career ideas.

The programme is delivered via 3 x 50-minute sessions. We are flexible in our delivery, and the programme can be delivered during 1 school day, weekly, or spread over the academic term at times that are convenient to you.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOUR STUDENTS?:

  • Explore their personality and interests and how these can affect career choices
  • Learn more about further education, apprenticeships, and higher education & make informed choices about their future  
  • Understand soft skills to boost future employability and develop understanding of CVs

Each workshop is delivered by trained SUN staff, and is approximately 1 hour long. We are flexible in our delivery, and the programme can be delivered during 1 school day, weekly, or spread over the academic term at times that are convenient to you.

The Programme

Workshop 1: Know Yourself: Get Career Ready

Know Yourself: Get Career Ready is a workshop designed to help students make informed decisions about their future education and careers. It raises self-awareness through a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® test and explores career options linked to personality type, hobbies and interests. The session also highlights the importance of transferable skills for employability and includes ideas on how to gain more experience outside of the school curriculum.

  • Learn how to make informed decisions about the future
  • Explore their personality and interests and how these can affect career choices
  • Discover what to get involved in to help improve employability

Workshop 2: Research Your Options

The Research Your Options workshop is available in three levels: Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced. This workshop enables students to explore different options and qualifications available after GCSEs. Students will also learn some basic research skills to help them explore their own futures. This workshop helps students to explore which route may suit them, and outlines how and where they can find further information and support, as well as giving students an opportunity to practice these research skills.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOUR STUDENTS?:

  • Encourages students to start thinking about their future and what’s important to them
  • Learn more about further education, apprenticeships, and higher education
  • Enables students to make informed choices about their future and know where to go for further support
  • Equips students with the research skills to research their own future pathways

Workshop 3: What Makes You Employable

The ‘What Makes You Employable’ workshop is designed to unpack the meaning of employability in a fun and interactive way. Students will begin to recognise what skills and qualities employers are looking for, alongside other factors that make them employable.

The workshop will cover the different application methods that can be required for college, university, apprenticeship and employment opportunities. Additionally, it explores why showcasing their skills and talents to prospective education providers and employers is so important. The workshop concludes with an introduction to CVs and top tips for writing one.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOUR STUDENTS?:

  • Learn what we mean by the term ‘employability’ and know what employers are looking for
  • Recognise skills that are needed to succeed in both education and future careers
  • Understand the importance of showcasing their skills and talents on applications and CVs
