What will the session cover?

In recent years, we have seen an increase in students arriving at university feeling unprepared for the diverse expectations they will encounter, which can lead to anxiety and uncertainty. To ease this transition, schools and educators can play a vital role in fostering readiness through approaches that go beyond academic preparation. During this session, Dr Camila Devis-Rozental, Principal Academic in Learning Design at Bournemouth University, will explore research-informed strategies grounded in humanising practice. These strategies support students in developing the skills and confidence needed for HE or FE, prioritising their wellbeing and sense of belonging. By adopting a holistic approach that considers the whole person, learners can be empowered to navigate their new environment with resilience and a positive mindset.

Who is it for?

This session will be suitable for all staff working in secondary schools and colleges, including those in SLT roles, pastoral roles, teaching and non-teaching staff. It will also be suitable for staff who work across the education sector, for example, those in higher education, Local Authority or charity roles that would like to further their knowledge.
