CAREERS MENTORING PROGRAMME

Priory School
Summary:

The primary aim was to enable Year 10 students to start to focus on their post-16 options, consider their personal ambitions and help them prepare for their ‘Life after Priory’ in an approach that encourages open-minded discussion. The aim was to increase awareness of Post 16 and Post 18 options, including university and degree apprenticeships, enabling them to make more informed choices about their next steps. The project is an in-house careers mentoring programme that involves selected

Year 10 pupils. They attend a series of small group mentoring sessions. All of the sessions are run by an independent qualified Careers Adviser, who is employed using the SUN funding to deliver the programme.

Testimonials

Teacher

“Students had a greater understanding of the post-16 options available to them and which ones might suit them. All were able to identify personal strengths, skills and qualities and how they will support them in the choices they make about their future. Students reported that they found sessions looking at FE, different university options and apprenticeships very useful. Attendance was over 90% for all the mentoring sessions.”
