Outreach with schools and colleges

Southampton Solent University believes that every child with the ability to succeed should be able to take advantage of the benefits of Higher Education. Our outreach programme offers your students a rich calendar of events and opportunities designed to engage and enthuse, such as:

  • School visits by our staff and student ambassadors
  • Talks about the university experience
  • On campus visits
  • Subject specific mini-masterclasses

Key Stage 2
Working with local pupils our programme offers pupils exciting and challenging activities designed to:

  • Encourage learners to think about moving up and on
  • Develop problem solving skills
  • Investigate and understand progression routes
  • Raise their aspirations
  • Build their confidence

Key Stages 3 and 4

We offer a series of fun, interactive activities encouraging pupils to consider the concept of ‘your future’. By participating in generic and bespoke sessions pupils will be able to explore the range of cutting-edge facilities on campus and will be encouraged to think about their future life choices and what ‘going to university’ means. These activities continue to complement schools' option lessons and activities for year 9 as well as PSHE/citizenship curricula. For pupils in years 10 and 11 our programme aims to support teachers in building pupil confidence and developing creativity and aspirations, both on and off campus.

Key Stage 5

Our post-16 initiative provides intensive support to students in years 12 and 13 as they start planning for the transition from Further Education to Higher Education. They can:

  • experience university style lectures focusing on specific subject areas
  • receive advice on preparing art and design portfolios
  • receive advice on interview techniques and how to apply for specific courses at university
  • participating in information, advice and guidance workshops
