SUN is pleased to announce the return of the popular Festival of the Creative and Digital Industries. Taking place at Holiday Inn Winchester and the Ark Centre in Basingstoke, the events will provide students with the opportunity to gain a hands-on, interactive experience with a local creative and digital employer for the day.

The employers will task the students with a practical brief, reflecting the work within their businesses but also providing context on the world of the creative and digital industries and the opportunities available to students.

The events will take place from 09:15 – 10:15 and schools can sign up for the following dates:

  • Thursday 29th November, Holiday Inn Winchester
  • Tuesday 4th December, The Ark Centre Basingstoke

The event will help to build student confidence and aspirations by interacting with employers in a workshop setting. With Ofsted’s recommendations for enterprise, employability and employer engagement, we hope the event will also show successful student/employer engagement as well as developing student’s soft skills such as teamwork and presenting.

The opportunity is open to Year 9 and 10 students* to support their participation/knowledge of the creative and digital industries. Students do not have to be studying/wanting to study a creative subject at GCSE or beyond in order to attend. This event will be completely free of charge for all those attending and all travel and staff cover costs will be funded by SUN. Places are very limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

*As an Office for Students funded programme with specific aims to support NCOP learners and their progression, we would like as many learners as possible attending to be NCOP (those young people living in an NCOP ‘target ward’, identified by the Postcode Profiler). We would suggest a 60/40 split of NCOP /non-NCOP where possible. For those non-NCOP learners, we would encourage they meet at least one of the following criteria: be in receipt of Free School Meals, be of BME background, have a disability, have parents who have never attended HE, live in care, and/or be a young carer or come from a military service family.
