What is your role at the college & how can you support the students?
As a SUN Progression Mentor, it is my job to help students figure out what their next steps are and how I can help them achieve this. Whether that be university, a degree apprenticeship or employment, I am here to help students to navigate these transitions through application help, personal statement reviews and much more.
What has been your career journey & what did you study?
I studied English Literature, Psychology and Sociology at A Level and missed my university offer the first time round! I resat one of my A Levels and began my studies at The University of Birmingham studying BA/BSc Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences (which is similar to the American major and minor system). I mostly enjoyed the opportunity to learn about a wide range of subjects and meeting others with different viewpoints to my own. This is a skill I bring with me everywhere I go nowadays. I would recommend that applicants visit the university they are thinking of attending. You wouldn’t buy a house without viewing it, so spend some time in the place you may be living for the next 3 years! I am now studying my Postgraduate in Education Policy at The University of Birmingham.
What is a fun fact about you?
I’ve played competitive netball for 18 years.
