Year 10 Residential

The Southern Universities Network (SUN) is running a three-day residential for Year 10 students, taking place at the University of Winchester between Tuesday 12 June and Thursday 14 June 2018. The residential will have a creative focus, aiming to help participants to develop a range of transferable skills, as well as raising their aspirations towards GCSEs and future choices.

Participants will have the opportunity to visit SUN partner universities, take part in academic taster sessions and various other workshops, as well as developing study skills and life skills with a particular focus on teamwork and resilience. Participants will also experience what it’s really like to study at university, including having the opportunity to stay overnight in the student halls of residence.

All aspects of the SUN Year 10 Residential, including accommodation, catering and transport, are offered entirely free of charge and paid for by the Southern Universities Network.

The residential will include the following:

  • Workshops - study skills, life skills, academic taster sessions, presentation development and stressbusting
  • Campus tours
  • Visits to other SUN partner universities
  • Participation in cultural and social activities

Travel will be fully funded and paid for by SUN. Successful applicants will be sent further information nearer the time of the event.

This residential is open to students studying in Year 10 in the 2017/18 academic year.

Places are limited and will be offered to students that meet our eligibility criteria on a first come first served basis.

Please note due to the nature of the funding, this opportunity is only available to students domiciled in NCOP defined target wards. Your school’s SUN Single Point of Contact will be able to identify these individuals.

We will ask all successful applicants to complete a confidential medical form in order to ensure safety during the residential. Participants will not be permitted to attend the residential without having completed and returned this document with parent/carer consent.
